Privacy policy

What we collect

If you fill in the contact form on this site, we collect what you type into it:

• Your name
• Your email address
• Your phone number, if you choose to give one
• Your organisation, if you choose to give one
• The message you write

What we do not collect

As of the date at the top of this page, this site sets no cookies, runs no advertising trackers and uses no third-party analytics. We do not build a profile of you and we do not buy information about you from anyone else.

One exception, and it is a small one: if you switch the site between its light and dark look, that choice is saved in your own browser so the page remembers it next time. It stays on your device, is never sent to us, and clearing your browser's site data removes it.

If anything else ever changes, this page changes with it before the change goes live.

Why we collect it

To reply to you, and to keep a record of the conversation so we remember what was discussed if you come back to us later. That is the whole purpose.

We will not add you to a mailing list or send you marketing from this form. If we ever want to, we will ask you first in a separate and clearly worded request, as Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation requires.

Where it is stored

Submissions are stored in a Supabase database. Notification email is sent through Resend. Both are service providers acting on our instructions, and both may process or store data outside Canada, including in the United States. While your information is outside Canada it may be accessible to the courts, law enforcement and national security authorities of that country under its own laws.

How we protect it

Access is limited to the people who need it. Data is encrypted in transit, and our service providers encrypt it at rest. No system is perfectly secure and we do not claim otherwise, so please do not send anything highly sensitive through a web form.

How long we keep it

We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the purpose it was collected, or as long as the law requires. In practice an enquiry that does not become an engagement is normally kept for about two years from our last contact and then deleted. If an enquiry becomes an engagement, records are kept for the engagement and for any legal, tax or professional retention period that applies to it.

Your rights

You can ask what personal information we hold about you, ask for a copy, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Write to the address below and we will normally answer within thirty days. Where the law allows an extension and we need one, we will tell you before the thirty days are up and explain why. We do not charge for a routine request.

We may need to confirm who you are before we act, and there are narrow cases where the law requires or permits us to withhold information. If that happens we will tell you which exception we are relying on.

If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can complain to the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia, or to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top of the page changes with it. Changes are not applied retroactively to information already collected under an earlier version without your consent where consent is required.
